November has already come to an end and we still cannot feel the winter cold. But effects of winter dryness can still be felt. Patients with complaints of Dry skin, dry hair and joint pain are increasing in daily OPD.
In the previous article we learned about skin and hair care during winters. In this article we will learn about diet and routine regimen. Aahar ie Diet means what to eat - what not to eat. Vihar ie routine daily schedule that we need to follow in this season.
As we have learnt in last article, According to Indian calender, Winter season is briefy divided into Hemant Rutu ie months of kartik-margasheersha and Shishira rutu ie pausha-magha. This period shows predominance of Kapha Dosha. Kapha represents strength. Snigdha ( Oletion ) Sheeta (Cold) Guru (Heavy/strong) Manda (slow), mrudu (soft) properties of Kapha guna create kledana (moisture) mardav (softness) ardrata (malleability) and these are responsible for regulation of Vata Dosha and also nourishment and growth of the body. External Cold stimulates Pachakagni (digestive fire) which also promotes growth and vigour. But increased Cold and decreased humidity cause dryness ie increase in ruksha (dry) , sheeta (cold) and chala(motion) properties in nature and in the body as well, thus causing Vata disorders
