Proper and healthy menstrual cycle is important for motherhood and overall health.as it ensures regular and adequate hormonal secretions.
It is also called as ‘Rutukal’ in Ayurveda.( Rutu - Favorable condition for fertilization and embodiment of fetus). By this age, irregularities with menses, if any, should be resolved either naturally or with medical attention. It should habe ideal qualities as per mentioned in article 1.
According to Tridoshas, RutuChakra can be divided into three different stages.
Rutukala - this phase shows growth of Endometrium and development of primordial follicle to ovum which is mainly signified by kapha dosha.During this stage our body is preparing for insemination and pregnancy.
Rutuvyatit kala - During early period of these stage ovum has been released from ovaries and reached up to the junction of fundus and fallopian tubes. This stage shows prominence of Pitta Dosha.
Rajahsrawa kala - This is a Vaat Dosha dominant stage. Which shows menstrual bleeding is there has not been any chance of insemination. Symptoms like mood swings, headaches, hyperacidity, pain in legs or lower abdomen and back due to muscular cramps are because of Vaatdushti as per earlier description.
Hence there should be changes in routine during these stages according to doshas.
Diet should consist of warm and light food. During Rutukala one must include nutritious and madhur rasatmak (sweet) supplement like Shatavari,Ashwagandha, milk, ghee which will promote proper Endometrial development. During Rajahsrawa kala one must rest, drink and eat only warm diet. Nowadays education/ career aspirations require long hours work compelling women to rely on outside food. If possible try to avoid it or at least check on ingredients, cleanliness, quality of that food and choose a healthier options. (ref. Article 2)
After reading all this some of readers may ask , “ is there any need to take all this pain?? Why do we even bother to follow this inconvenient schedule if we do not experience any difficulty now?” answer to this question lies in a physiology and marvelous machine called human body. Our body has a natural strength to tolerate most of the abuse we subject it to. Hence it normal to have no complaints at the age of 18/25/30/35 or even at 40 but it still has some limitations. So you have to consider some change if lifestyle if you do not want to suffer from problems at 50/60/80 .
Religion, Menstruation and Hormonal pills.
Indian women belonging to any religion/cast are so used to taking hormonal pills to postpone their menstrual period that they simply pop up some for any Festival, functions, rituals or evwn for long trips. These pills mostly contain some or other variant of Progesterone which maintains Endometrium thereby delaying menstruation. But they fail to understand that they are interfering in a regular, involuntary and healthy process. What if we tamper a well oiled ,smoothly operating automated machine or try to operate a well written, automatically working software program manually?? It will still work for some time or slow down but it may stop if the abuse continued. We are doing same tampering with our well worked human body and its hormonal software. Frequently taking these pills can cause irregular menses, irregularities with bleeding, painful cycles, blood clotting, pain or pricking sensations in breast. Hence try to avoid consumption of such pills regularly.
