National Ayurveda Day.

Today is an auspicious day of Dhanatrayodashi. Many people worship wealth ie Dhan on this day. But very few know that it is originally a day of Lord Dhanwantari Jayanti. Lord Dhanwantari is deity of Ayurveda. Hence This day marks special importance as it just states value of outer prosperity but also signifies value of inner wealth ie health.
Dhanvantari is the form of Lord Vishnu, the protective aspect of divinity, who arose from the samudra manthana, the original churning of the cosmic ocean, as a gift of healing for all. Ayurvedic science which is developed by Lord Dhanwantari was then enriched and researched and further developed by various acharyas to form AyurvedaShastra. Hence By honouring Dhanvantari we can open ourselves to the power of healing within us. Accessing such inner blessings is more important than merely buying gold and silver.
This year Dhanatrayodashi has one more significant aspect as we will be celebrating first National Ayurveda Day. This highlights recognition to Ayurveda as an effective mode of life science and treatment. As Ayurvedic science has proved its eternal power and importance in daily challenges it is important to create awareness and also provide easy accessibility. By this we do not mean only medical tourism but also providing benefits of Ayurveda to grassroot level.
  • For this involvement of public health system is very important. There should be an ayurvedic OPD in all government hospitals and primary health centers
  • Ayurvedic medicines should be available here and should be prescribed by qualified ayurvedic doctor.
  • Raw material for medicines ie herbs need to cultivated scientifically and organic production needs to be encouraged
All these efforts are Herculean and require government administration. Hence acknowledgement and recognition in the form of National Ayurveda day can be considered as a first step towards revival of Indian science.
